You obviously sound like you know what you are talking about and I won't pretend that I know a whole lot about this stuff. I did, however, research the matter before posting (I _usually_ do ;)). Unfortunately, I don't have time to research it more right now, as I'm running late for a tennis match already...

Just to make sure we agree on what we disagree on...

DVD for NTSC is 720x480 @ 30fps
DVD for PAL is 720x576 @ 25fps

Ok, I assume we can agree on that bit...

For the different TV standards...

Where I think we differ:

NTSC has a nominal bandwidth of 4.2MHz (see e.g. cs.tut.fi, whereas the PAL bandwidth is 5MHz. Several other sources quoted by:

say the same thing. I think this may be the source of our disagreement.

I'm not saying that I'm not wrong... Your post was very convincing, but I don't have time to go through the calculations now... Going to be late as usual...
