Helpful Hint: For people who use slower dial-up connections to reach SI, I know of a pretty good pre-fetcher that will speed things up for you. With this program running, I click on "next" and most of the time the next post will appear in about a quarter of a second. This is especially nice on Sunday evenings, for example, when there can be long latencies.

Pre-fetchers in general are bad news because most are bandwidth hogs: they download lots of links on a page, you get a ton of things in your cache that you never read, and you waste bandwidth that other people need. This one, however, will pre-fetch only links that are specified by the user. I have mine set to load "next" (for SI and other sites), and ">>" for a few search engines. It doesn't pre-fetch anything else. And it blocks lots of ads. I'm pretty sure I don't put more of a load on the net by using it.

Free for 'a limited time'. naviscope.com I have no connection to the company.
