>>I do believe that the fact that she is black had a lot to do with Bush's decision<<

yes, but out of respect to the person you ought to give her the benefit of the doubt b/c you don't KNOW. it is not fair to her to have that weight laid on her - especially if it is not true - something you nor i will ever KNOW.

perhaps bush hired her b/c of her qualifications while others in his group wanted her due to color. i've seen that happen before.

>>As long as the people being appointed to important posts are qualified, I don't care about their race.<<

that's where the discussion typically ends for "non minorities." it should also end there for minorities.

>>I don't care for his views.<<

i hear ya. problem is, i don't see anybody that shares my views. they do all share my wallet, though, to serve their selfish desires.

Allen,

>>>However, if you happen to appoint a "conservative" minority, they have a hissy fit because it exposes them. They only want liberal minorities. :-)<<<<

>>Do you think liberals should applaud when conservatives are appointed to high posts?<<

No. I only made that point because the democrats spend so much time selling themselves as being pro-minority when they are really for a specific agenda. If we had a wave of immigrants that just happened to be conservative - but was being treated like many immigrants have in the past - they would do little to help them advance.

I think there's a small difference. No doubt republicans play politics with appointments also, but IMHO there is less inconsistency between their actions and stated values on this issue. The pubs lean and act more towards merit and letting the chips fall where they may.

I agree completely with all your other points.
