If AG were to lower rates, or change bias then (based on how the market is reacting of late) it could be viewed as a confirmation of slowing profits (i.e. recession) and spark a further selloff.

2000 is a washout and cannot be salvaged, better off to have the market drop another 20% and set the stage for a 2001 rally.
