I bet I know what the scam is as I ran into something similar over 15 years ago. A co-worker had this sure fire scheme he was going to buy into. Involved buying Mexican 50 peso gold coins (over a troy oz of gold) for 50 pesos a copy - face value, then melt them down and sell the bullion. -vbg-

I tried to explain to him how this wasn't going to work out, but he signed up anyway! He got fired 6 months later for being stoopit. -g-
