In a rapidly growing marketplace, pushing everything into leading edge processes generally proves more cost effective than wasting fab space on older technologies. Not when a company has more than half a dozen fabs and it takes them more than a year to convert to the new process. The last thing that they would want is to push out sub $100 parts on the leading process (specially and particularly in this case, when the parts on the current main stream process would be clearly falling behind the competition in MHz).
