A company that is emerging from an involvement with its parent unit in bankruptcy is AVVPP, Aviva Energy.

It is practially impossible to buy at a reasonable price, however, because the float is so thin and the market maker sits there setting very widely separated bids and asks. For a few hours last week there was some large-scale buying that pulled the bid/ask to a penny apart.

The company does have producing properties with enough income to put the P/E at around 1. Or so says Yahoo.

I own some of this as a result of some complex reorganization that took place and I found it in my broker account. I have bought more when it looked advantageous to do so, which has not been often. I just thought it was funny to buy 1000 shares of anything for $120.

Don't make fun of me until a year from now!

It is the penniest of penny stocks. But for the price of a lottery ticket one can buy ten shares of AVVPP. The best I would risk saying is that its odds are higher than a lottery. But it does have produsing properties and they may be worth something.
