I do not mean to derogate from Lee, who was a brilliant general, and the only real hope for the South. But, at the end of the day, Grant proved to be a very capable general himself, and it was not only a matter of resources. I just mean that there was not a strict correlation between their collegiate careers and their careers on the field.......
