Compaq has inventory they have to move before they'll want to shift consumer interest to newer products. The AMD OEMs with build to order businesses are offering 1.2GHZ parts.

It's the default speed selection for Desktop -> Home systems at Micron, and doesn't add much to the price.

AMD doesn't want to back up the channel with unsold high end processors the way Intel has with the P4 - just look at AMD's pricing. If they couldn't make the things, they'd raise the price. AMD is pricing to sell, and pricing to keep the channel clear.

The channel may already be sitting on as many P4s as it needs until mid Q1. As Paul keeps saying, "they are everywhere" and Intel only made a few hundred thousand.
