I visited some Eastern Block countries during the cold war and that's exactly how we were perceived. Government corruption notwithstanding, they considered themselves at risk of going to war with the west at any time.
You make a good point about China. I'm sure they view us in the same way today. It's time to invest in defense contractors - especially the ones in Texas.
