I think the only E-tailers that will survive will be the extreme specialty shops.

For instance, let's say that you are in the market to buy a live black spitting cobra and want to shop prices. Where else can you do that but on-line (yes, believe it or not, there are several on-line purveyors of black spitting cobras)?

For stuff like books and records, I think it is a dud.

I agree Glenn.

I will make a prediction- we will see a few pure plays try the "membership" thing- buy a 30 dollar membership for a yr and shop all you want, lowest prices gauranteed, yada, yada. But it will be far too little too late.

ps, on a practical level, I hate to see all the dotcoms go. it sure is convenient. I sure hope the combo click and mortars stay around.
