re: "P3 continues to sputter at 800 MHz..."

This part of your post points to a potentially enormous inteL problem. Unlike AMD, inteL is sitting on a mountain of equipment that, since it cannot be practicably upgraded to the competitive AMD offerings that are becoming increasingly commonplace in the semi market, they are going to be forced to write down and rapidly replace much of this mountain in order to merely remain competitive. I have often referred to inteL as having "all of the money in the world" inteL may soon be forced to spend much of that pile, not to mention the consequential time to bring on line the new tools, in order to just appear to get to be even with AMD.

For example, there is a real risk that the "sweet spot" of the Durons may exceed, in real and viable performance, the "sweet spot" of the pentiuM offerings. For inteL, this has to be a "GOOD GRIEF!"
