That rumor of a rate cut has really muted the good news from the FED. They have not dropped bias 2 steps in a long time and that means that rates will be cut early next year and that is great news for stocks. It is a shame that these rumors of a rate cut has caused this confusion. I think you are right, someone planted this rumor because it never made any sense when I heard it last Friday and when a rumor has no basis in fact then it is usually a trading rumor to try to make money.
