Certainly the largest drop ever
in the Nasdaq, 38%,
is not something investing Democrats will remember
fondly about their political leadership in all this,
when they look at their portfolio.
Especially Californians that looked at Bill Clinton as their salvation.

Democrats ever blame themselves for something? Hah!

Republicans calling this the "Clinton Crash" during the next presidential election will be drowned out by shrill cry of the Democrats saying that it was due to Bush being elected, conveniently forgetting the second and third quarters. And the bulk of the people, being idiots (in a poll 50% said that government had its own money and didn't know that the government's money is our taxes), will believe the Democrats. Jesse "this was as bad as Dred Scott" Jackson will also mobilize his army who will ignore the fact that Bush is appointing two blacks to the highest executive branch positions ever, perhaps even calling them Oreos.

To be fair, though, this is the crash after a bubble and doesn't have much to do with either political party.

Kindly cut the Bush-as-savior-of-mankind BS. It's bad enough to suffer a down market without having to listen to your stream-of-consciousness fantasies.

When the market does rebound, it will not be based on anything GW does. It will be based on actions taken by Clinton-Greenspan during a Democratic administration. They have chosen to moderate growth and bring the economy in line with a soft landing. They did not let the economy go into a recession during the Asian crisis and they won't let it happen now.

If you want to give GW credit, then wait till he's been in office a couple years.

Pat

If you look back at history, the largest NASDAQ drop occurred in 1973-1974, when the index dropped 59.9%. This one is getting close, but no cigar yet. I posted the historical numbers on the Daytrading Fundamentals thread:
