Streaming Media expands into Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver using 360networks' new IP transit service
VANCOUVER, BC, and ENGLEWOOD CLIFFS, NJ, Dec. 20 /CNW/ - Streaming Media Corporation (SMC), a Broadband Media Delivery Network(TM), today announced an expansion into Los Angeles, Toronto and Vancouver using 360networks' Internet Protocol (IP) transit service.
SMC is the first company to beta test the new 360networks service, which provides high-speed, high-capacity access to the Internet. 360networks will provide SMC up to one gigabit per second of capacity, enabling SMC to deliver high-quality streaming video and audio directly to broadband users in three cities initially, and eventually in Montreal and other major North American centers.

"Network alliances are a key component of SMC's growth strategy," said Rick Murphy, president and CEO of SMC. "By teaming up with companies with broadband networks, we can focus on providing state-of-the-art broadband media services."

"An alliance with 360networks makes great sense," Murphy added. "Our ability to expand quickly is greatly enhanced by 360networks' aggressive roll- out schedule for its IP transit service."

"Our IP transit service is ideal for applications service providers and next-generation providers like SMC who need flexible broadband capacity," said Jim Brennan, 360networks' senior vice-president of sales and marketing. "We intend to launch our IP transit service commercially in 14 North American cities in the first quarter of 2001, followed with about 30 more cities by July 2001. Our plan is to provide this service in all the major cities on our global network by late 2002."
