Re: "Everytime you post on the net, your message carries a code that can be traced back to your server and account."

What this meant was.......if someone wanted to find you,
you're dead with or without knowing your Union.

<<A few years back, we bargained into our contract a clause saying that management cannot willy-nilly start spying on people's phone calls, voice mail or e-mails ... either intra-workplace or the Internet. Management can only do such monitoring if they suspect abuse and if the president of the union local is notified. >>

Lets just say I may have access to the software that traces your messages back to say, fj@kabota.com and I e-mail the management with all your posts. Wow. It doesn't happen now but if you stuck in an alias from SI in Yahoo a few years back all the person's posts would come up.

<<Reason we did this is that several years ago management stooges got on the computer system and went looking for intra-workplace messages between union bargaining committee members>>

Wife works in a non union place. An upper mid level guy put in a policy the all in company messages had to deal with business. One of the first snagged was the CEO and a VP lining up a golf game. One of the shortest lived policies ever.
