Mary, RE: Shouldn't the Fed just keep their hands off of market cap?

I would agree. In fact, I'd agree with the minority that would replace the Fed with a computer. The computer's decision making process WRT interest rates and money supply would be made public, eliminating a huge uncertainty in the markets.

Isn't the Feds role to balance money supply wrt inflation and deflation?

It should be. Unfortunately, Congress also gave the Fed a concomitant responsibility to monitor the economy.

I am more knowledgeable wrt Duke (mens) and Tennessee (womens) basketball.

Keep an eye on those Duke gals. They've got an outstanding coach and four outstanding frosh. They might not challenge the TN/CN gang this year, but look out next year, and every year after that.

Mary, I think you illustrate that we should trust our common sense more when it comes to economics. Many things are intuitive once we get the basic idea of supply and demand. Stick with your instincts. If AG's basic problem was a market bubble, and if it is any of his business in the first place, he could have tightened margin requirements and left interest rates alone.

Mary, RE: "I am more knowledgeable wrt Duke (mens) and Tennessee (womens) basketball."

I can't say anything about your tech, economics or investing knowledge because I haven't the background to judge, but you sure know how to pick the basketball teams.

Enjoy the season! dmf
