"re; ASP decline

This ASP decline is for real and very worrying.

AMD may have asp sub $80 in Q4.

Looks like profits will be slashed.

Couple that with taxes due next year and you have alousy environment for AMD stock.

Things to get MUCH more ugly before they get better."

Kash:

Agree wholeheartedly.....AMD will have a very poor 4th quarter and it won't get any better for sometime. Obviously this is not AMD specific but industry specific. The reverse wealth effect is very real here. Tomorrow is going to be very ugly....but of course you should expect to hear the rants of the cheerleaders here in regards to your post. I agree with your earlier NAZ 1500-2000 prediction...maybe short QQQ?

Good thing the new integrated motherboards are worth $40 to ASPs at the low end. AMD can leave prices alone next quarter and it will be the equivalent of lowering them by $40!

Gaining a huge reduction in costs right now is far and away the most important thing for AMD - and they've done it.

Duh! Why do you think the stock has fallen from $48 to $15 We have to be close to a bottom. When rates start to fall in Jan things will pick up. Remember the market always sees 6 months ahead. Next yr will be much better. Close your short position now and avoid the rush right after the new year.

kash, "Things to get MUCH more ugly before they get better."

Both Intel and AMD have warned. If AMD's quarter over quarter revenue change is better than Intel, the reason for AMD's relatively poorer performance over the past three months will be eliminated.

AMD has traditionally been regarded as the weaker company which will lose more than Intel when there is an excess supply. Q4 is the acid test.

After all, if AMD can outperform Intel even in a down economy, and with the added disadvantage of losing 1.5% of revenue from the voice communications division sale, then the reason for its underperformance does not exist.
