What the american people want most of all is to continue the boom. They just didn't know when they responded to the polls you mention how much in jeopardy the boom is. They would support very extreme measures to get their boom back. Remember that a poll is static, a slice of time. Things have changed, as we are now learning. Funny there was no talk of this in the press prior to the election.
