Intel sells lots of SMP systems. CMP (Chip Multiprocessing) is coming soon, and that is simply putting two SMP cores on the same die.

SMT uses less hardware, but the design effort is very expensive. Ultimately it will be proven to be a bad idea, just like VLIW.
