If they had watched expenses and not blown out IPO First day (allocation) dollars...some of them may have survived...That's partially what makes me so angry with the brokers who abused ....

I agree. The street forced companies into an expend/expand mode which overstretched many startups to their limits and sometimes beyond that. There was no time to implement proper business practices or fix obvious gaffes. (why is it that Amazon still cannot tell me for certain if they have a book in their billion dollar warehouses when I buy it?)...

Moreover with the rush to grow they haven't fired as many employees as they should. Are we to believe that, say Amazon's or Yahoo's hiring practices are so stellar that in the process of growing from 10 employees to 5000 they didn't pickup any dead wood or hire somebody who turned out to be a bad match?

But there is not time for that on the Internet. Better do a secondary or issue more debt....
