Ira: I have some 30 economic indicators that I track. Most are incredibly juvenile, but they have stood me in good stead for many years. Every single one of them has been heading downhill for several months now, and none of them show any signs of reversing direction. Lay-offs are indeed accelerating. My guess is that the impact will begin to be recognized by the public by late spring. The recognition will come from the fact that the lay-offs will be carving big visible chunks from every companys' sales projections, government taz receipt forecasts, etc. "It aint gonna be pretty" sort of sums it up.
