<<Do you and Sue have any extended family at all that you still see? >>

Sue has a brother she hasn't spoken to since '82. She called him then to tell him their mother had died. His only comment was to ask if she had left him anything.

I have a cousin about 60 miles away that still sends a Christmas card. We used to go on a fishing trip once a year but he was promoted and hasn't been able to go in the last 5 years.

Losing a child anytime is hard but to have that happen during the holidays must be the bottom of the pit. A tragedy just when anticipations are at their highest.

I've got to go out and get some eye wash. My left eye is swollen shut for the second day now and being one-eyed makes it tough reading.

Nick is taller than me now. It just happened within the last couple of weeks.

Pretty soon we have to start teaching Ben to drive. I know an office complex with a huge parking lot, I'll take him there one Sunday. I do worry because driving here takes a lot of skill, which takes time to develop. As long as he stays away from the highways, he should do ok, eventually, but he's so absent minded. I hope he gives driving as much attention as he gives his computer games.

Thank God I don't have kids

As a bachelor, I've probably had that thought a time or two. But now I think of friends my age who have adult children to be most fortunate to have accomplished that most important function of life. Heading into the golden years without children does have its regrets.
