Again, I disagree. While a company needs money for R&D, what it really needs is the incentive to make things better. Competition provides that incentive. A company will find it much cheaper to just keep on making whatever they have that works. A new product requires training, factory changes, new suppliers, and displacement. It is the fear that a competitor might develop something new that keeps the R&D focused on innovation and not just cost reduction.
