I've owned a 544 as a teenager which started the whole Volvo thing, a couple 240s, now drive a 740 which I haven't even tuned up for 5 years and spent very little $$$ on, wife drives a 940. I highly recommend them for someone you love as they are built well, they're pretty reliable and among the best in crash safety. I recommend a 740 over the 240 on the basis of looks mainly. Don't get a turboed one and check it out well. The only problem is that people will think your a tree hugger too even if you secretly are a member of the vast right-wing conspiracy. Pretty good cover.
