LIBERTIES

He's Gone! He's Back!

By MAUREEN DOWD

WASHINGTON — It is always a
poignant moment: the image of the
new ex-president climbing up the stairs of the
Marine helicopter on the White House lawn,
turning back for that final wave to Washington
and the nation. Then the outgoing chief
executive flies to Andrews Air Force Base for
his last ride home on Air Force One, which is redesignated "Special Air
Mission," since the president is not on board.

Nixon summoning a smile through his tears, throwing his arms into a V.
Reagan exchanging a brisk salute with President Bush.

Bill Clinton has not yet told aides where he wants Air Force Not-One to
take him after the inauguration.

Being the glorious ham he is, Elvis won't want to miss the drama of the
final goodbye. But then he may have to slip out the back door of the
plane, hail a cab and double back to town.

Bill Is Not Going Away. Ever.......

We DO remember what happened during GHWB's term. He backed off a tax promise, like you're suggesting that Jr. do, and we still hear about it from Dem's. ten years later. Read my lips. Stop trying to set up GWB for failure before he even takes office.

Clinton is our president now. Why isn't he doing something about this debacle, if he can? Or doesn't he care? Where are all those great policies he keeps bragging about? Did they expire?
