this bear market is only 9 months old, some lasts for years !!!
And timewise, it has only backed up to August 1999- -less than 1 1/2 years. In terms of bears, this could easily just be starting.

That upsurge from Oct. 1999 to March 2000 was insanity itself- -70% in 6 months. I'm surprised anyone is surprised this is happening after the speculative excesses of last year.

Baldy,

We have been in a bear market for 9 mos. The % fall has been one of the largest historically. Remember, the stock market is a leading indicator of the economy. Also, remember that the market is ALWAYS a bull market with corrections of various durations. When interest rates start back down the market will start to reverse. Depending on the damage done, true it may take awhile. However, it will ALWAYS come back to higher highs sometime. It always has.
