I like the 1.7 launch not occurring until May -- that gives AMD some breathing room.

So much for all the BS about 2.0 GHz in Q2.

Their actual cost - labor and materials, with no allowance for rambus rebates, advertising, overhead, depreciation of capital expenditures, etc.

Direct variable cost, is at least $75 and likely a little over $100 on the P4 at .18. A P3 costs Intel something like $25.

Considering the discounts that must be given large customers, Intel can't really ever go much below about $250 on a published price for these parts until they get to .13 if they want to make any money (absent accounting tricks).

Remember where AMD was with the K6-3 on .25 - they just weren't worth producing when the price dropped below a certain point.
