It's looking real reasonable for those of us who have been buying for the past year!

No kidding!

In the Dec. 13 DBAB report on GLW, there's a glimmer of hope for the industry:

Ramping Capacity

Corning has made a significant number of announcements this year, dramatically increasing internal manufacturing capacity for components and modules in addition to optical fiber and non-telecommunications products. The company expects to spend in the range of $1.6–$1.8 billion this year, up from earlier estimates in the range of $1.4–$1.5 billion. In the first half of 2000 Corning spent over $560 million, or over 90% more than the $293 million in the first six months of 1999. This dramatic increase in 2000 capital expenditures has been financed from operations.

Capacity is an issue for Corning’s Photonics and Fiber businesses as well its Display division, which manufactures Liquid Crystal Displays (LCD), where it is facing a shortage of glass. Consequently, the company has started up several new tanks and plans to double capacity.
