These Nature links are interesting: Alzheimer's disease: Vaccination in a mouse model A vaccine against Alzheimer's disease in humans is a long way off, but work reported this week shows that it could be a goal worth pursuing. Alzheimer's is characterized by the build-up of plaques of insoluble amyloid-beta (Ab) peptide in the brain. Using a new experimental protocol, researchers now show that, in mice genetically engineered to develop a form of Alzheimer's, the build up of plaques with age correlates with cognitive decline, a relationship that had until now eluded researchers. Peter, just a quick question. When a company files an IND the FDA has 30 days to respond saying no trial can be begun. What I would like to know is, does the FDA also notify a company that it can go ahead before the 30 day period has terminated? Or does the o.k. to proceed come mainly by receiving no negative response? Any statistics on how many request for INDs are turned down.
