Covering shorts by year end might make sense. The downcycle is now feeding on margin calls and tax loss selling as well. I think that is why we do not see much panic: it is like a machine. As we go lower, we get more margin calls and we have new candidates for tax loss sales. Jan 1 will at least shut down one cylinder of the down cycle machine.
