I'm really not sure if the margin calls are cleaned out yet?

the bulls in my office are all loading in here for a 2-3 day bounce...

Much of the gains in early 2000 were probably short term which at the highest brackets would be taxed at 41%. Taking the loss against it gives you a 41% premium. For instance selling csco at 40 is like getting 63-64 or so. And then you can wait 31 days or buy a comprable stock simultaneously to keep you in the market. The one year hold for lt is a tough thing to do in volatile markets.
