I don't know wether the satisfaction of angling the big one to the boat is better than the dinner, but I wouldn't want to miss either one.

I was looking at the chart of CSCO since the IPO and was struck by two things: The steady exponential rise for the first years, and the sudden switch to skyrocketing appreciation which began in the autumn of 1999. This week, we've been shown the 'Lift-off' was the beginning of a round-trip, and we're now back to where we began. Unfortunately, the current PE still remains well above levels seen for most of the last decade. I don't welcome price appreciation beyond sustainable levels: I'd much rather see the stock price rise matching the company's fundamentals.

All efforts made to temper my enthusiasm over the unbelievable performance of CSCO in 1999 have paid off handsomely by sparing me the necessity of dealing with the anguish accompanying CSCO's return to reality in 2000. I look forward to a 2001 ruled by sanity.

Cheers, PW.
