Uh, Steve, in case you haven't noticed, there isn't any space -based star wars system in development, even. The preferred option in the Reagan years, the bizarre orbiting x-ray laser thing based on detonating a nuclear device to pump the lasers, turned out to be based on bad test data from Livermore. That is, the x-ray lasers didn't actually work in the first place, ignoring the rather obvious problem of testing an apparatus that involved blowing up a nuclear device in space. Or do you have some actual knowledge on which you base your " Therefore a space based defense system is the only possible solution." assertion? If that's true, there's a lot of money being wasted on current development efforts, not to mention what Bush likely to be pushing to deploy next year.
