imode vs G* round 2.

Okay, that previous post covered the cost of sending email on the imode system. Now costs for accessing imode web sites. Example: snowadventures.co.nz [yes, advertising my own site!]

'Web' data is charged at 0.3 yen per 128 bytes. [ nttdocomo.co.jp ] So, running through the same calculations for this, we get about 2.8 yen per second for web data. [1.2 kilobytes per second/128 bytes*0.3yen] That is 168 yen a minute or 10,125 yen an hour. MUCH more reasonable - now I can see why they have so many customers! It is only US$100 an hour rather than $500 for email. Great!!

Maybe G* hasn't got it wrong? I can't believe it, but people are throwing a LOT of money at data in Japan at the above rates. 16 million users in 18 months at the above prices! BUT THEY'RE ONLY CHARGING FOR DATA TRANSMITTED!! [Just in case anyone at G*USA is reading and is getting a little excited about raising the prices to US$150 an hour - after all, this IS 'above and beyond' cellular so surely customers will pay a premium!!]

Alright, breakfast time...
