gottfried, ah yes, rolling blackouts and winter storms. <g3> i've been too long without a UPS. have always had real good surge protectors (purchased from APC also), but now it's time to graduate to an uninterruptable power supply. i was looking at a more expensive model ( apcc.com ), but this one on sale actually beats it in a number of categories, the most notable being the number of outlets (bat/surge). the one i've ordered has 3/3, the more expensive one has 2/1. i was tempted to get the more expensive one, but aside from an increase of about 4 minutes estimated back up time, i determined that it was mostly bells and whistles that i could do without. i also dealt with a most informative and helpful APC tech support engineer via email named jackie espinoza. i mean she is a delight! :) mark
