Sometimes I'm amazed how much individuals mean to americans. There is a big difference in Corporate culture between U.S. and Europe, sometimes much bigger than between Italy and Norway.

I mean, he did invent that stuff. But everybody now knows how it works - why focus on that guy? It's just like focusing on Linux Thorvalds. In Europe (where he comes from), he is often seen as a guy who prevents Linux from moving as fast forward as it could. Sometimes he also gets slammed in the newsgroups for not being a very good programmer. Anyway, americans tend to believe he is a hero.

Believe me - the Linux revolution would have been there even without him. And without the inventor, WWW would just have been based on another technology.

By the way: with 65% of MSFTs revenue coming outside the U.S., I tend to believe that the fight for MSFT market dominance is being held in a non-American environment.

Maybe, in 5 years we will see a MSFT centric USA and a Linux centric Europe? Judging on the few, poor non-English MSFT websites, their total lack of fully localized server software, and the total lack of MSFT advertisements, this seems a likely scenario.
