It may become a matter of definition. If nothing happens then nothing can be seen or heard so how do you tell if it exists. There couldn't be a thought process. Maybe there could be one idea.

This has in its definition to persist over time. Nonexistence is the best you could hope for. Now whose to say there aren't several axes of "time"? That is the easiest way around this "problem".
