Loki -- GE - IBM,, are they safe? Have had both for awhile and they have not participated in the downturn ass the others. Of course IBM especially has not been a runner either. Take a look at a 3 - 5 year chart with them and bellweathers msft & csco. Since diversifiacation has always been a belief of mine,, not just diversification of of segments in the tech sector, companies such as these have always seemed deserving a portion of the portfolio. Defensive? I've owned Safeway, Darden, Pepsi, Kellogg and a couple others for a long time. They have done "OK" but held my portfolios from running hard but they have also kept me from sinking to ungodly levels. Defensive-- ORCL, emci, SUNW?????
Bought MO @ 25 & 28 (at the same time T was purchased at 31+ to be sold at 26+) this year just for the divs,, MO does seem a bit high to me now. Sadley instead of mrk or jnj I've been playing pfe from 34. Tomorrow it will be back under 40 on news tonight. Either jnj or mrk would be good on a dip IMO but I've done well with ETHSX over the past couple years with less risk and good gains.
Bailed msft at 119 and traded out again at 66 with a slight loss. IMO it looks good here and will look even better when Reno is in the unemployment line. I'm not yet prepared to jump in until I see stabilization or a rising NAS. Something that seems it may sustain. Time to wait & see on msft. Should be in no rush until / IF a rally begins soon. Buy on a run and hold with very tight stops pressed firmly on brokers head....
LU-- just sux. Holding dead money and looking to bail. Kept thinking it may rise and each day it has tanked. Small holding not worth much thought... it will go at a loss,, just unsure of the exit level yet.
IBM ANYWHERE under 85 but maybe not until we see if there is news next week or 2.
Which still makes AMAT, INTC, etc--- look good. Techs that had triple digit P/Es a month or two ago without horrible news and a P/E under 50 should not be discounted but the old highs should not be counted on soon or ever,, gains yes,, miracles no. One thing I try to impress on friends in the mkt is to listen to their mother. Your mother often told you "what goes up must come down". She never told you 'what comes down must go back up'...
