Alliance Semiconductor warns of weak Q3 revenues
SANTA CLARA, Calif., Dec 21 (Reuters) - Computer chip maker Alliance Semiconductor Corp. (NasdaqNM:ALSC - news) said on Thursday its fiscal third-quarter revenues will fall short of previous expectations due mostly to lower chip sales in Asia.

The company said revenues for the quarter ending December 31 will be up only about 2 percent from the $64.5 million reported in the fiscal second quarter ended September 30, compared with prior projections of sequential revenue growth of over 20 percent.

Alliance attributed the bulk of the revenue shortfall to lower DRAM sales in the Asian market due to lower demand as well as yield related problems with some SRAM products.

SRAM is a faster-performing type of memory chip than DRAM, which is an older technology.

The company said it believe that the SRAM yield problems have now been fixed and the overall SRAM product booking activity remains good.
