You could be right, but a poster on another site says that Fed Fund futures now are pricing in a 40% chance of a rate cut before the next FOMC meeting. So perhaps not a done deal, but still a reasonable bet.

Larry Wachtel of Prudential Securities wrote in his Closing Market Commentary (12/21) that there were rumors the Central Bank held an emergency meeting today. When approached for confirmation, the Fed said "no comment".

I think all the noise Bush Jr made regarding a weak economy and tax cuts have push Greenspan and company further into a corner. Political posturing overshadows economic reality - as always.
