Yahoo! Enhances Commerce Sites for Higher Quality Online Experience

Business Editors/High-Tech Writers

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Jan. 2, 2001--In a move to
enhance the quality of its consumers' online experience, Yahoo! Inc.
(Nasdaq:YHOO), a leading global Internet communications, commerce and
media company, today announced a number of modifications to its U.S.
commerce platform, including the introduction of a nominal listing fee
and new monitoring program on Yahoo!(R)Auctions
(http://auctions.yahoo.com). Additionally, Yahoo! has refined its
guidelines for its commerce properties prohibiting items that are
associated with groups deemed to promote or glorify hatred and
violence. These new programs and policies will go into effect Jan. 10,
2001.
"As an Internet leader, Yahoo! constantly reviews and enhances its
products based on consumer response and need," said Tim Brady, senior
vice president, Network Services, Yahoo!. "The improvements we are
making in our commerce properties will help ensure that we maintain
the highest quality online experience available to buyers and
sellers."
As part of our continuing effort to provide buyers and sellers
with the highest quality experience, Yahoo! Auctions' sellers will pay
a fee to list an auction item. Fees will be on a sliding scale based
on the value of the starting and reserve price and will range from
$.20 to $2.25. Unlike other auction sites, Yahoo! Auctions will not
charge a closing fee or take a percentage of the final sale. A
detailed breakdown of pricing can be found at
help.yahoo.com
"We believe a nominal listing fee will ultimately further improve
the quality of our auctions service, thereby providing our buyers and
sellers with an even more compelling experience," said Brian
Fitzgerald, senior producer, Yahoo! Auctions. "Because we are not
taking a commission and the fee is minimal, we are increasing the
quality of listings while remaining price competitive and providing
sellers with a better margin."
Yahoo! has also refined its product guidelines across its commerce
properties. Yahoo! will no longer allow items that are associated with
groups which promote or glorify hatred and violence, to be listed on
any of Yahoo!'s commerce properties -- including Yahoo! Shopping,
Yahoo! Store, Yahoo! Auctions and Yahoo! Classifieds. Prohibited
listings include items such as Nazi militaria and KKK memorabilia.
In addition, Yahoo! Auctions has also launched a new monitoring
program to help enforce the refined policies and identify items that
do not comply with Yahoo!'s Terms of Service. The program will
incorporate both a new internally developed technology, as well as
trained representatives who will monitor the site regularly.
"Our monitoring program will further help ensure that the listings
on our auction site comply with our Terms of Service," added
Fitzgerald. "We are committed to reviewing and updating the program to
be most effective. We also continue to encourage our consumers to
notify us when items appear to be inappropriate or illegal, based on
our policies."

A Comprehensive Commerce Platform

Yahoo!'s comprehensive suite of commerce services includes Yahoo!
Auctions, Yahoo! Shopping, Yahoo! Store, Yahoo! Classifieds, Yahoo!
Travel and Yahoo! Finance. During the first nine months of 2000,
Yahoo! directly enabled more than $3 billion of transactions on its
commerce platform. Yahoo! Auctions, one of the fastest growing,
globally-branded auction sites on the Internet, operates in 16
countries and 11 languages, giving consumers access to the unique and
antique through its ever-expanding world of collectables. Yahoo!
Auctions also offers more than three million items in categories that
include coins, autos, sports memorabilia, as well as extraordinary
