re: "what does that make AMD? Sub-dead?"

To quote Hertz (not hurts) "NOT EXACTLY!"

JC,

Intel's strength is business, not consumer.

JC:

"Given that they will outsell all the competition combined in terms of both units and dollars in that marketplace this quarter and almost certainly all next year, what does that make AMD? Sub-dead?"

An astute comment...Not bad that a comapny 50 times AMD's size will continue to outsell AMD in both units and dollars...Such a revelation!!!

Saw two computers being hawked on TV last night.
Computer A was a Systemax Athlon 1 GHz with DVD, CDRW, 256M of RAM, scanner, printer, 5 ch surround and 17" monitor for 1899.

Computer B was a P3-850 with all of the above except no CDRW and only 128M RAM for 1699.

You might remember that I emailed AMD marketing a while ago and said it would be a good idea to increase memory in AMD-based computers to 256M so that P4 systems would be monetarily disadvantaged and RamBusted. I think the Systemax deal might have been a promotion from AMD since they were talking Athlon up a lot on that 1/2 hour show.

So, anyway, some evidence that AMD marketing listens.
