I still wonder if the GOP should have challenged the Missouri Senate race in the courts. It would have meant the difference between a 50-50 Senate and a 51-49 one. This might be of even greater importance if Thurmond or another old Republican dies and is replaced by a Democrat. It could also take on more significance after the 2002 elections.

I know there was concern that it would be bad publicity to challenge it in the courts, but the GOP could have taken a page from the Gore playbook and found some "concerned citizen" to file the suit. Like Gore did in contesting the Seminole County absentee ballots. "Oh we didn't have anything to do with that."
