"U.S. Rotary Rigs Down 20, Canada Unchanged"

NEW YORK, Dec 22 (Reuters) - The number of rigs exploring for oil and natural gas in North America fell by 20 during the week ending December 22, according to oil services firm Baker Hughes Inc.(NYSE:BHI - news).

The number of rigs operating in the United States fell by 20 to 1,087, compared to 797 a year ago.

The number of rigs in Canada was steady at 456, compared with last year's 404, according to Baker Hughes.

In the U.S. Gulf of Mexico, the number of rigs searching for oil and gas rose one to 142, compared to 119 last year.

The number of U.S. rigs searching for oil fell by nine to 235, while the number of rigs searching for gas fell by 11 to 851. There was one miscellaneous rig, unchanged from last week.

The number of U.S. rigs exploring on land fell by 24 to 916, while the number of rigs operating offshore rose one to 146. The number of rigs in inland waters rose three to 25.

There were 256 U.S. rigs exploring directionally, down one; 55 exploring horizontally, down six from last week; and 776 exploring vertically, down 13.

The states with the largest changes in their rig count were Texas, which fell 10 to 410, and Wyoming and Oklahoma, which rose two to 53 and 134 respectively.

The weekly rig count reflects the number of rigs exploring for oil and gas, not those producing oil and gas.

Thanks. That explains the volume and discount. I'm surprised they didn't place the stock, instead of dumping it on the market.

I'm even more surprised they chose to sell it on Friday the last day before x-mas?
