I think that one of the things that gives the telcos an edge is reliability. I don't trust my cableco to give me reliable television service let alone data and telephony. I haven't seen anything that indicates that the cableco culture has adopted an attitude that reliability is hugely important. But if you think about it, everyday home residents would freak out if they didn't get dial tone when they picked up the receiver. Reliability is an expectation down at the lowest levels.
