If you have those funds at a profit that might be ok, esp
in a tax sheltered account. However, that is hard to
take if you already have a loss, and have to pay capital
gains taxes to boot. Definitely an argument for avoiding
some funds in December.

Gold funds continue to act well.

My guess (just a guess): more or less the same stocks. Fund A sold stock X, bought stock Y. Fund B sold stock Y, bought stock X. There are several tech funds, moving in and out of similar stocks.
