More Trouble Ahead

Fred Hickey still sees few opportunities in the sector despite the Nasdaq's plunge.

His best bets are Motorola and a bunch of depressed stocks like Compuware and Adaptec that could get a bounce in early 2001. Hickey argues that Intel, Oracle and Nokia still are overvalued.

Dell Computer 17.19 -66.3 60 16 0.91 1.10 18.8 15.7 44.5
Hickey's view: Had lower P/E in early 1990s; non PC growth may help

Hickey's view: Wireless phone giant may suffer from economic slowdown

Veritas Software 85.94 -9.9 174 72 0.58 0.85 148.0 101.0 33.5
Hickey's view: Still sports huge P/E ratio. Fetches over 30 times sales

Bounce candidates: Adaptec, Novell, Parametric Technology, Compuware, BMC
Hickey's view: Battered stocks could rise in early 2001
