Morningstar (Jan 11) Reports Nicholas Buying SFY Not exactly hot off the press, but not noted here: Morningstar.com Nicholas Applegate Mini-Cap Growth Lagged in 2000 By Brian Portnoy The momentum-oriented investors at Nicholas-Applegate Mini-Cap Growth (Nasdaq: NAMCX - news) got their comeuppance in 2000. Due to its large technology holdings (sometimes more than half of the fund) it suffered through a predictably bumpy ride last year, shedding 20.7% of its value. That trailed not only most of its small-growth rivals, but also most other funds specializing in micro-cap investing. In response to the market turmoil, lead managers John McCraw and Tom Bleakley have reshaped the portfolio. First, they have cut the fund's tech stake, which now sits at about one quarter of the portfolio. Meanwhile, energy stocks have taken a more-prominent position in the fund.
