Paul - Re: "Every day, a new analyst will take his turn - and Intel's stock will be rattled and drop - as the series of dire forecasts rattles already shaky investors.

And when Intel does report their earnings in Mid-January, the analysts will begin ALL OVER AGAIN to predict the demise of Intel as they interpret Intel's comments on future sales expectations"

You just summed up my WORST FEAR. I have been hoping (praying) that the fed and/or cash inflows from pension funds in January would work to offset the factors you outlined above. In past fed easing cycles the market has gone up BEFORE the earnings have bottomed. I realize Q1 will be ugly, but if the fed does move it stands a good chance of being the profit bottom.

The reaction to Whittington's comments certainly added to my depression and does not bode well for the next few weeks as others take their shots. I need to write some covered calls but I just can't get myself to do it at this price, despite the fact I think it could fall to 25 as a worst case.

Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. Maybe your turning bearish is a sign of a bottom. I remember in April 1998 you turned very bearish when INTC was set to announce big reductions in capital spending and then INTC rallied. I can only hope history will repeat itself.

have a good holiday,
